What is a Cottage Food Bakery?
yellow door provisions is a home bakery operating under the Colorado Cottage Foods Act. In 2012, the Colorado legislature enacted the Colorado Cottage Foods Act allowing limited types of food products to be sold directly to consumers without licensing or inspections. What are your food safety procedures?
I have taken the Colorado Food Safety Training Course offered by the CSU extension office. I am following all food safety requirements and my ingredients are detailed on every package.
Tell me about your food packaging.
Minimizing environmental impact was important to me as I set up this business. Under the Cottage Food Act, all food must be packaged prior to sale or delivery. yellow door provisions is currently utilizing natural brown bakery boxes that are uncoated, unbleached, and use 25-30% less fiber than similar materials. They are sourced from Sustainable Forestry Initiative lumber and are recyclable and biodegradable. The clear windows on some packages are cellular acetate, which biodegradable, compostable, or recyclable with paper products in some areas.
We will continue to monitor ways to reduce our environmental impact and are always open to suggestions and feedback!
Can you ship my items?
The Colorado Cottage Food Act does not allow for products to be shipped outside of Colorado. At this time, we are focusing on local pick up in Lakewood, CO.
Why do your products seem so expensive compared to my grocery store?
All our products are made from scratch using high quality ingredients. The pricing also includes the cost of our ecofriendly packaging, the time it takes to create the food (making caramel from scratch is a long process!), website hosting, supplies, and sales tax when applicable.
I don’t see the product I’m looking for…where did it go?
Some of our products are seasonal and are rotated in and out based on availability. If you don’t see something you had in the past, please reach out and we can let you know when it might come back! Also, if you have a special request for an item not on the menu, let us know and we can see what we can do!
